Mary Louise Parker

Born in Fort Jackson, South Carolina in United States, Marie Louise Parker is the daughter of a judge who served in the US Army. Her mother was Swedish. She studied from the North Carolina School of the Arts, majoring in Drama.

She started her career in acting by appearing for a minor role in ‘Ryan’s Hope’. She also worked at ECCO, a Danish shoe manufacturing company, when she moved to New York.

In 1990, she made her debut in Broadway production for Craig Lucas’ ‘Prelude to Kiss’ in which she played the role of “Rita”. This role earned her the Clarence Derwent Award and a nomination for the Tony Award.

She performed in many theatre productions during 1990’s. She appeared in the play ‘Bus Stop’ in 1996. Very next year, she performed in Paula Vogel’s ‘How I Learnt to Drive’. She won a Tony Award for her performance in Broadway production of ‘Proof’ in 2000. She also was nominated for the award of the Best Actress for the Tony Award for the Craig Lucas ‘Reckless’ (2004) on Broadway. She has performed in Off-Broadway production of ‘Dead Man’s Cell Phone’ in 2008 and in the revival of the play ‘Hedda Gabler’ in 2009.

Marie Louise Parker has appeared in films like ‘Longtime Companion’, which was one of the movies to openly discuss AIDS. Then, she made appearances in the films like ‘Grand Canyon’, ‘Fried Green Tomatoes’, ‘The Client’, ‘Bullets Over Broadway’, ‘Boys On The Side’, ‘Reckless’, ‘The Portrait of a Lady’, ‘The Maker’, ‘The Five Senses’, ‘Let the Devil Wear Black’, etc.

She has acted in many television series/shows. She appeared on the television in ‘The West Wing’, ‘Angels in America’ and ‘Weeds’. She has also made appearances in ‘The Robber Bride’, ‘Miracle Run’, ‘A Place for Annie’, ‘Legalese’, Cupid & Cate’ and ‘Vinegar Hill’.

Parker gave birth to a son, William Atticus Parker on 7 January 2004, after her split -up with the boy’s father actor Billy Curdup with whom Parker broke her eight year old relationship when she was seven months pregnant with his child. She adopted an Ethiopian girl child in September 2007 and named her Caroline “Ash” Aberash Parker.

She dated actor Adam Duritz and Timothy Hutton and is still friends with them. She got engaged to Jeffery Dean Morgan, her co-star in Weeds on 12 February 2008 but their engagement broke soon after, in April 2008.
Parker won the Golden Globe Award in 2004 for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Supporting Role in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television for ‘Angels in America’. She won the same award in 2006 for the Best Performance by an Actress in a Television Series-Musical or Comedy for ‘Weeds’ and she also was a nominee for the same in 2007.

She won the Emmy as the Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Miniseries or a movie for ‘Angels in America’ in 2004, and was nominated under the same category for ‘The Robber Bride’ in 2007.
