Hunter was born in Richmond, Virginia. He completed his graduation in 2007 from the Texas Tech University Independent School District.
He appeared on stage at the Eugene O’Neill Theatre in New York City, for the Broadway musical ‘Spring Awakening’. He played the lead role of Melchior Gabor and the play won a Tony Award.
He has made his appearances in movies like ‘The Guardian’ and ‘Sleepover’ in 2003 and 2004 respectively. He played roles in ‘Steal Me’, ‘Summerland’, ‘Premonition’, ‘Down in the Valley’ and ‘CSI: Crime Scene Investigation’, during 2005. He joined the cast and is still appearing in ‘Weeds’ from 2005 onwards. In 2006, he acted in ‘In Justice’, ‘RV (Runaway Vacation)’, ‘Close to Home’ and ‘Campus Ladies’. He was seen in ‘Freedom Writers’ and “Law and Order: Special Victims Unit’ in 2007.
He released a video ‘Cougar 101 with Hunter Parrish’ on the site “funnyordie.com”, on 18 August 2008. His latest film ‘17 Again’, was released on 17 April 2009. He has played the role of a high school basketball player, named Stan, in this film.
He won the Best Actor award under the category of Feature Film for ‘Steal Me’, at the Method Fest in 2005.
He was nominated for the Screen Actors Guild Award in 2007 and 2009 for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Comedy Series for ‘Weeds’.
At the Young Artists Award-2005, he was nominated in the category of Best Performance in a Feature Film - Young Ensemble Cast for ‘Sleepover’.
